Bone Marrow Drive organized by the Icla Da Silva Foundation Feb 3rd
The Latin American Association and the Icla Da Silva Foundation will host a Bone Marrow Drive Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
LAA is seeking healthy individuals between the ages of 18 and 60 to volunteer as a potential bone marrow donor. The Feb. 3 event is non-invasive, and a Buccal swab test (a swab of the inner cheeks) and a questionnaire are the only requirements for Tuesday. If particular criteria are met, the donor will be contacted with further instructions.
Of the more than 13 million people in need of bone marrow transplants due to illnesses like lymphoma and leukemia, about 1.17 million are Latinos, the largest demographic in need of bone marrow transplants. Of any ethnic group, Latinos have the largest need for donors, for the most successful transplants occur between members of the same racial background. The Latino population can make a difference in our community and nation!
Location: Latin American Association – Atlanta Outreach Center 2750 Buford Highway Atlanta, GA 30324
